Our Cutting Boards are etched on 1/4" thick Tempered Safety Glass. The process of tempering glass makes the flat surface of the glass three to five times stronger than regular annealed glass but it can still be broken if the edges of the glass come in contact with hard surfaces such as sinks, counters or stone floors. We use tempered glass as a safety consideration for you. In the event the tempered glass edges do hit a hard surface it will shatter into hundreds of small marble size pieces of glass versus if the Cutting Board had been etched on annealed glass it would break up into large jagged pieces of glass. Tempered glass does not mean it won't break, it means in the event it does break it is safer and it greatly reduces the likelihood of injury.

How do I handle and care for glass cutting boards?

All of our Cutting Boards are etched on 1/4” thick tempered safety glass. The process of tempering glass makes the flat surface of the glass three to five times stronger than standard regular glass which is called annealed glass. Even though tempered glass is stronger than regular annealed glass it can still be broken if the edges of the glass come in contact with hard surfaces such as sinks, counters or stone floors.

In the event the tempered glass edges do hit a hard surface it will shatter into hundreds of small marble size pieces of glass versus if the Cutting Board had been etched on regular annealed glass it would break up into large jagged pieces of glass. Tempered glass does not mean it won’t break, it means in the event it does break it is safer and it greatly reduces the likelihood of injury. Do not be afraid to use as a Cutting Board, Trivet or Serving Tray, just be cautious not to let the glass edges come in contact with hard surfaces. The small Cutting Board 17” width x 10” height is also dishwasher safe.  Use the same precautions when placing the Cutting Board into the dishwasher.
